The hole in the center of a custom wheel is called the Center Bore. This hole is machined to match the hub of specified vehicles with hub-centric wheels or machined to a generic size with lug centric wheels.
The Center Bore varies from one vehicle to another. It is essential the wheels purchased have the correct center bore for your vehicle, otherwise you may experience balancing problems.
Our Custom Wheels n Rims Sponsors have wheel finders by vehicles make, model and year. Our trusted merchants and their web sites will guide you through the selection process to find just the right wheels for your car or truck.
At Custom Wheels and Rims, our Custom Wheels n Rims Sponsors have wheel finders by vehicles make, model and year. They will make sure your custom wheel order has the proper Center Bore for your vehicle or furnish hub rings (see below)
Hub centric wheels
An increasing number of new wheels feature a design element known as hub-centric. With a hub-centric wheel, the center hole is precisely sized where it meets the wheel hub. When the wheel is installed and the lug nuts are tightened, the raised center section of the hub fits tightly into the hole of the wheel. With a hub-centric design, the lug nuts don't support any of the vehicle's weight; the wheel is supported by the precision fit between the hub and the wheel's center bore.
Lug centric wheels
Lug centric wheels perform double duty. As the lug nuts pull the wheel into contact with the wheel hub they also provide support for the entire weight of the vehicle.

Hub rings
Hub rings are used to center the Center Bore hole in a wheel to the hub of the drum or disc brake. Since most wheels are mass produced, they have a large center bore to accommodate several different vehicles. If this is the case, it is recommended that you use a hub ring. Hub rings are hard plastic or metal ring that fits between the wheel and the vehicle. This centers the wheel perfectly on the hub ensuring that there is no run out (wheel out of round or egg shaped) when the wheel is installed on to the vehicle. Without hub rings it is possible to get vibrations even if the wheel / tire assembly is perfectly balanced.
